The Performance

There are only so many things you can say about music until the inevitable must happen: you must hear it to really understand it. Hearing a recording of the Kreutzer études for the first time is like having a cryptologist with you on a guided tour of the pyramids, where many mysteries are revealed and even more are discovered. For so many violinists hearing Jacques Israelievitch's masterful and musical performance of the seldom played studies will open their ears to the scope and breadth of the technique that the Kreutzer 42 studies encompass. Even for those that are familiar with all the studies, hearing them interpreted musically brings a new dimension to these old standards.

The Study Guide

The understanding of something you do, such as the art of playing violin, comes with the doing, the practical experience of living through something. The Guide to Kreutzer by David Wilson, assists you as you progress through the Studies, and discusses many of the points of practice, breaking down different techniques in a clear step-by-step manner, offering written examples of practice exercises for shifting, bowing, intonation, trills and all aspects of the 42 Kreutzer Studies. The Guide allows you to investigate the technique behind the music, from the most basic to advanced violin technique.

The Score

The Kreutzer 42 Studies Stringology Edition Score is fully edited by Jacques Israelievitch to reflect his performance. His interpretation of the Studies as performance pieces remains true to their originally intended style and purpose as études. All Studies are scored across no more than two pages, giving you the ability to read through the Studies without worrying about having to turn pages while practicing. Also, unlike other publications, this volume is wire-o bound, which means that the books easily lies flat on your stand without hassle. Also, bar numbers are included in the score – something which, surprisingly, no other edition includes.
